Yep it's a lotus. What makes it weird is the superhydrophobia exhibited in the presence of water which is actually caused by millions of microscopic hairs on the surface of the leaf that hold the water droplets above the surface. This characteristic has been coined the "lotus effect" for this very reason.

This is a Sacred Lotus. The botanical name is Nelumbo nucifera. They also make huge beautiful flowers and unusual seed heads.
