2007 MOTOR Top 20 Tools Winner!
Two-section ratchet extensions that can be lengthened or shortened, typically by threading in or out, are not new. However, until these new springloaded extensions, you could not easily change the length with the ratchet and extension still connected and the socket in place on the nut or bolt. Just push on the ratchet head to shorten the extension (the usual technique), to complete unthreading when backing out a nut or bolt causes the ratchet head to hit against an adjacent part. A 4-in. extension (No. FXKV4) shortens to 3 in.; a 7-in. extension (No. FXKV7) shortens to 6 in. Knurled ends also permit hand-turning an extension if die ratchet has to be removed to complete unthreading in very tight quarters. The extensions, also available in a set of two (No. 202FXKV), are nickel/chromeplated in 3/8-in. drive.

I suppose I could call my dick a variable length extension too...It grows from 4" to 7", & it's sort-of spring loaded! Heh, heh.

or i could just use the longer one until it gets backed out enough to attach the short one...also i foresee the spring shooting bolts across the shop if your not careful when using it

or you could use a swivel socket!

That thick part that it retracts into will make it hard to get into any kind of tight spot.

All you gota do is use a u-joint or swivel to get into those areas. Snap-on makes lots of good stuff, but this paticular item is a waste of money. I think it would be better with a woble plus head on this.

good idea, but not perfectly executed, i've had these for 1 year now and its ok, they (thats you snap on) need to make the extension part able to lock inside the sleeve otherwise as soon as you pull away from a bolt hole it just wants to extend, same with going in you have to hold back the extension, one hand on extension, one on ratchet, in tight spots too, and hope your bolt lines up cause its gunna launch when you let go
