This video was shot a few years ago in Battalion 5, 27s first in district. A small cafe erupted in flames (cause not determined). The structure assignment came over my radio while I was just a few blocks away and as such, I was on scene before initial units arrived. However, it took two minutes to charge my camera, get into my safety gear, etc., so this footage commences as companies are laying lines and throwing the stick.

  • The red bag is a "rope bag"

  • @JoeDiesels The LAFD refers to these as "Drop bags" but you're right, they contain rope.

  • so are you with LAFD?

  • @ppi35trk yes.

  • @jacobeast1 You are very correct. The first hoseline in should have knocked down the parapet thing and then gone inside and from the video, they may have hit the inside then took a step back and knocked it then went in. Hard to tell. After watching the vid a second time, I did see the door close on the hoseline. I didn't see that the first time I watched the vid. So nice catch.

  • @Himdarling44 As I said, not sure if the guys were still inside. If not, no reason not to knock it down. If so, it could've waited til they were clear. Chocking/ removing the door negates any impingement on the hose line. Loss of water in any structure, even when you have multiple egress, can get a guy killed. A/C needs to go you're right about that. Different dept., different SOP.

  • @jacobeast1 that should have been pulled right at the start, to avoid it crushing someone.

  • @jacobeast1 I don't think it was much of a problem. They only used it to put out that small little banner thingy (forget what they are called) which was a hazard to any operating inside or under it, so it was a smart thing to do. However I don't see how the front door is a problem either. It was holding it's own and with two large windows to the left and right, getting out of the structure isn't a problem. The only major concern I have is with that little A/C unit above the door. That's a hazard

  • Um what do the different helmet colors mean? Red vs. Yellow?

  • WELCOME TO THE SHOW!..

  • SDFD is cooler :)

  • Good knockdown and awesome truck ops. Not sure if an exterior line should have been used with guys inside but these guys are pros they must have been clear. The only thing I would disagree with is the front door not being chocked/ripped off. Ladder placement is spot on and done professionally you'd be surprised how many ladders that size get dropped especially the wooden ones. Great job brothers.

  • After years of wondering I finally found out what that buldge in the LAFD turnout gear is. Pretty neat place to store scba masks and gloves.

  • haha the firefighter in the beginning throws the rug out then realizes its on fire then throws it back in
