Attachment theory is one of the components of Cogniitve Emotive Narrative Therapy (CENT) - in that the CENT counsellor strives to provide a 'secure base' for the client; is committed to being 'emotionally available' to the client; and treats the client with sensitivity and caring. In this video clip, Dr Jim Byrne explains how CENT is related to CENT counselling, and recommends that counselling of all stripes should include an emphasis on estalishing a secure attachment between the counsellor and the client.

  • I agree. This is a dialectical tension: "Will my emotionally healthy wife/husband help to heal me, or will my inherited insecurity cause me to wreck the relationship?"

Counselling may often be required, because most marriage partners will probably buckle under the destructive forces of dysfunctional relational patterns of particularly insecure partners.

    Have I grasped your meaning?

    Sincerley,

    Jim
