1950s era commercial for Rice Chex and Wheat Chex cereals from a 1953 episode of SPACE PATROL offering the Magic Space Pictures premium. After staring at the negative image on the card that came in "specially marked boxes of Wheat Chex and Rice Chex" -- for thirty seconds as instructed -- you could actually see the image. That's because it was temporarily "burned" into the retina, much like images that remain stationary for extended periods on a computer monitor are "burned" into the screen.

I remember getting this in boxes of Wheat Chex and Rice Chex. Don't know how they designed the photos to work like this. The picture looked like a negative from a film. As you stared at one spot on the photo, the image became implanted on your retina, so that when you looked at a blank wall or clear sky, it would re-appear. I followed the instructions and it really did work.
