Though there are hundreds of beautiful homes and mansions visible from Lakeshore Drive, the largest estates are totally hidden behind gates, long driveways and walls of well manicured shrubs.

The "Grosse Pointe area" is actually an affluent cluster of five separate suburban cities (Grosse Pt, Grosse Pt Shores, Grosse Pt Woods, Grosse Pt Farms & Grosse Pt Park). These five cities have a collective population of 50,000 within an area of 12 square miles. "The Pointes" are bordered by Detroit on two sides, Lake St Clair on the south and the city of St Clair Shores on the north.

Despite the obvious wealth of these five towns, only two of them are among metro Detroit's 10 wealthiest communities (GP Shores & GP Farms). "The Pointes" actually have lower per-capita incomes than cities like Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham, Barton Hills & Orchard Lake. But none of these richer locales offer more beautiful, publicly accessible scenery or possess more decorated history than that of Grosse Pointe.

  • And next time slow it down. I'm still dizzy. The Pointes are beautiful.

  • @redwow

I wanted to drive slower but in all five Grosse Pointes it's pretty easy to get pulled over for speeding... OR driving to slowly.

  • wow. i actually didn't post that comment. it could have been ANY of the people who use my computer. i also didn't realize that i had a youtube account and that it was in my full name. i will be deleting this right away. also, you might not want to take youtube comments so seriously. you're quite mean.

Sorry Jackie. When it comes to mean-spirited sarcasm I respond with full-blown, overwhelmingly sarcastic force. My apologies if you weren't the one who posted the pea-brained comment that I was responding to. Now, find out who it was so you can deliver the message that was intended for 'them.'

  • Allow me to add a few details you left out.....what you call Downtown Grosse Pointe Farms has been known to countless generations as "The Hill" Also you forgot to showcase that other shopping area known as "The Village". You had NO narration and should have Pointed out the landmark at the foot of Oxford Road that was an Inter Urban station. Oh and Harper Woods also borders Grosse Pointe Woods. haven't been in GP long have ya.

  • @gramps2matt

I appreciate the info. You clearly know a lot about "The Pointes." My intent was to provide visual exposure to some of the more impressive spots that can be seen on a drive through GP, mainly for those who've never even been to Michigan. The text was intended to be a very basic addition to the visuals and music. Your input would have been more appreciated had you not sent it in such a condescending fashion. Haven't dealt in diplomacy or interpersonal skills much, have ya?

Does it really matter how long? I didn't know it was a competition. :) There are many details that could of been included. I would have left HW out of it as well. That community is hardly worth mentioning. So, you must be from Harper Woods and a product of GPPSS? Lucky you.

  • Simply BEAUTIFUL- LOVE GP

  • GPS represent!

  • I was truly delighted by this present-day glimpse of Lakeshore Drive, and Grosse Pointe High School South (my alma mater, class of 1965), as well as the other local landmarks. Thanks for the sentimental journey. --- Best wishes.... from Tom, in Florida

  • @mystuff414 While Bloomfield may have equally appealing homes, the residents portray the difference. GP emulates a 1950's classic style where men are expected to be gentlemen and ladies classy. Dresses, seersucker and collared shirts are commonplace here as opposed to Ed Hardy and V-Neck t-shirts. However, there are many upstanding Bloomfielders as well. Should you combine the residents of the GP South school district with those of Bloomfield Hills you would have one hell of a community.

  • Bloomfield Hills/West Bloomfield is better.

  • Belive it or not I know the owner of the house at 1:22 and its beautiful. Great Video.
