MALA SINHA ;- Actress Mala Sinha's real name is Alda Singh. She is a Nepali, born in Calcutta on November 11, 1936. She was first introduced to Bengali films by Pinaki Mukherjee when he cast her as the leading lady in Dhuli. Her first appearance in Hindi films was in director Amiya Chakraborty's Badshah (1954). She is best known for her role as Guru Dutt's estranged girlfriend in Pyaasa (1957), amother in Dhool Ka Phool and Ashok Kumar's wife in Gumrah (1963).

SHANKAR JAIKISHAN ;- Melody was S-Js complete existence, a vast reservoir of joy. It was amazing, too, and far ahead of their time. Just listen to the prelude of Lata Mangeshkar-Hemant Kumars lilting number, Aa Neel Gagan Tale Pyar Hum Kare from Badshah [1954], and youll sure think you are listening to the first of Indias media-sponsored Mozart of Madras A R Rahmans AirTel jigs. Or, take this — the pounding tabla beats and surge of Latas Meri Tumhari Beech Mein from Jhuk Gaya Aasman [1968], resonating in Shaans Shubhanallah in Fanaa [2006]. Or, recall how the virtually sizzling Mohammed Rafi number, Jaan Pehchaan Ho from Gumnaam [1965], was made famous in a Hollywood movie, Ghost World [2001]. Or, listen to Nadeem-Shravans hit number, Tum Dil Ki Dhadkan Mein Rehte Ho from Dhadkan [2000], which is, quite simply, a facsimile of S-J-Latas melodious number, Mujhe Tum Milgaye Humdum, from Love In Tokyo [1966].

  • What ever young melodious voices of Lata and Hemant Kumar. A time that will never return when voices like these besides Mukesh, M Rafi, Manna Dey and sweet tunes of the music directors resonated in the air!

  • @daurangir ..Yuo are welcome my dear friend ..

  • It takes a genius to bring up melodies like this, a masterpiece entire India can justifiably be proud of. SJ/Hemant/Lata combo produced some of the most gripping chart busters which will always keep ringing in the ears. A show case of entertainment in a time proof cage!

  • this is one of the best melodies in the Indian cinema. Golden period of Indian started and ended with rise and of fall of Shankar Jaikishan. the MDs r best known for speedy rythem eg ' jiya ho jiya kuch bol do' by lata a solo at such heights but here they touches the depths. It is never stale even enjoyed time and again. Hemant, a singer of golden voice is really matchless. May he rest in peace.

  • By the by, no one can be compared to Shankar Jaikishan. Together with Hasrat and Shailendra, they defined Hindi film and Indian film music.

    They were just divine.
