Here's a video for the know-it-alls on the many forums screaming "TV sets do not cause RFI"
This radio is about 7 metres (23ft) away from the TV, on the second storey of our house (the Plasma is on the ground floor)
Don't blame the radio either; I have around 12 radios here and it does the same thing to all of them.
This is a common complaint among quite a few users of channel 26, all in different areas.
Channels 26, 19, 10 and 34(3MP) are the main ones affected

  • Lucky you, just 2 pound of crap with the plasma on and nothing with it switched off.. at least you can control the interference..

I get 5-6 pounds of PLT on 11 meters, on a good day my needle is halfway up the scale and on a bad day i can be getting 9 pounds of bleeping on some channels

  • @26highstreet

have you tried tracking down the source? I got another severe round of interference which absolutely destroyed the whole band, but managed to track it down to my next door neighbour by using a handheld with a signal meter, after taking off the antenna

  • that will teach you to get a plasma. get an lcd

  • I'd love to be able to afford one, but it's hard when our country is full of dole bludging Kiwis draining our wallets.

  • @waynereardon Once you tracked it down what do you do then?

i have switched the mains supply to my house off to eliminate any chance of it being caused by myself and used the radio on a car battery, but its still there.. may take a walk around my area with a handheld scanner and go from there, take antenna off and see if i can track it down

  • @2M0JAS This is the result of 'self certification' whereby the manufacturers can declare their own products' compliance with EMC regulations, slap a CE sticker on, and plonk it on the market. Clearly the manufacturers can't be trusted, and if they had to have their products independently lab tested, as you would in a sane world, we wouldn't have the problem of power line networking adaptors, plasma TVs and cruddy PC power supplies and such wiping out our reception. QED.

  • On off, On off....make your bloody mind up. Do you wana watch the TV or play radio...

  • I THINK YOU ALL AINT GETTING TO POINT ITS NOT ABOUT GETTING A PLASMA TV ITS ABOUT THEN COMEING THEW THE CB RADIO DERRRRRRRRRR LMAO

  • @OH2FFY

Think you'll find that you can EASILY buy plasma TVs in the UK still, sadly. Perhaps the likes of Germany are a lot more stricter in this respect but here in the UK you can flood the market with any old crap and no-one will stop you.

I had to bin my own one and get an LCD, funnily enough it was a panny viera too....last time I by a panny TV.

  • hi i rather have an lcd then plasma another kind of tv will do that is crt tvs they cause that noise too my brother had an tv that did that on mine it was so annoying i couldnt hear the locals or rthe skip finally he got rid of it anyway how close is your plasma tv

  • Mate, that's pretty light. Wait until someone close by gets a power line network adapter.

  • i have a RCI2950DX and live in sort of a rural area and my closest neighbor is about a quarter mile away and i notice that same sort of RFI on 27.345 (channel 34) but it is a lot weaker on my system, i believe somebody has a plasma TV but since the RFI is weaker they are further away, that noise would be frustrating,

i know the cordless mouse i have for my laptop makes RFI too
