We explore an abandoned telescope factory, called the Warner & Swasey Building. I put it to Evergreen Terrace's cover of the Hum song, Stars, because well stars, telescopes, get it? Pretty clever huh?

  • My Dad worked at W&S for a while, and my father-in-law retired from there.

We lived at 55th and Euclid in the late 40s early 50s.

    Is this the same building?

  • @gjsterp Yes, it is the same building. That's really interesting that your dad worked there and also that you lived so close. Cleveland was a much different city back then. I bet you have plenty of great memories of Cleveland.

  • What the heck did you capture @ 3:07. I clearly see it jump from right to left, run across the for a short distance and then run to the right.

  • not sure. a bug most likely.

  • What's sad is I remember this factory up and running.

  • really? that is sad. any idea when it shut down?

  • @a70sfreak Wow i didn't realize the date of this video. I just found the americadeclines website after forgetting what it was called, haha! In response to your comment; you never know it could have been paranormal!

  • Warner & Swasey made machine tools, particularly turret lathes. Their machinery was always will respected - we still have some of their machines in our shop where they are used every day. They were always up to date with technology even making fine CNC equipment, but could not compete with the Japanese. Almost all of this equipment is now imported from Japan. Free trade is killing this country.

  • interesting

  • Never knew cleveland had so much left behind buildings... but

when i think about it, it makes since though.

  • Stars, because well stars, telescopes, get it? Pretty clever huh?

    lol yeah.

  • where is this building located?

  • Also thanks to those who posting info on the history of this building.

  • Thank you for posting this video. I love looking at old buildings and just noticed all those old abandoned industrial buildings in that area (I live in Cleveland). I took photos of the exterior of this building last month. It's cool to see some of the interior, I doubt I'd have the guts to go inside these places.

  • Telescope? wtf lol
