Eastern Mind: The Lost Souls of Tong Nou is a 1995 adventure game by experimental artist Osamu Sato's studio OutSide Directors and Sony Imagesoft. The game takes place on the living, soul-swallowing island of Tong Nou where Rin has traveled to retrieve his soul. Using an illustrated guidebook, the player must guide Rin through nine lives of creatures from Tong Nou, learning the interplay of life, time, dreaming, and desire in the process. Eastern Mind relies heavily on philosophy and surreal imagery to compliment its non-linear, meandering pace.

This video shows the game's title screen and introduction. The game starts where the video leaves off.

  • any chance of uploading actual gameplay videos?

  • Once I finally get some free time (work load is awful right now), I'll try to get some more up. I have a little backlog of videos I want to put up now...

  • If you're interested, I added a video of the next eight minutes or so of the game. I'll try to get more up this weekend.

  • @tabbyaboutroots Azuritereaction does a lot of gameplay, hm and freaks the hell out a lot in the first 2 episodes

  • Green bald guy: *sleeping* *mouse touches chin* WHAT THE FUCK, WHO WOKE ME UP!?!

  • i want to play this while i'm on drugs.

    o_o.

  • Oh no 3:05 you have acquired a mullet :((

  • Yeah, I'm just slightly upset that I still can't find my original copy. However I was lucky enough to find the ISO somewhere on the internet, I had to do some serious digging to get it, and even then they didn't list the password for extracting the parts. So I had to search all of the persons posts, and try all of the passwords for the other games they put up, and I eventually found one that worked. I tell you what, it took a lot of perserverence and dertimination, I was bent on getting thatgame

  • That's a great deal, even for the time. The copy I picked up was $40 used on Amazon; there's $100 copies going around now because for some reason, people think it's worth that much.

  • Yeah my dad found it in like a 10 dollar bin at an Albertson's back in the mid 90's, and gave it to me. I played it all the time since it was my only video game. Except for the Mr. Pibb game I got from Taco Bell a year or two later, where in the game you drink Mr. Pibb and burp at zombies to turn them back into high school students.

But anyway yeah I was a pro at Eastern Mind as a kid, but it got packed away because for some reason my parents thought it gave them a computer virus. It didn't.

  • Wow, there's a lot of WTF going on here

  • 5 years old? Really? :-/
