Please watch this video in much higher quality at http://youtube.com/watch?v=F_nfHY61T-U

I originally uploaded this video in February 2010. Since then, YouTube have greatly improved their video conversion process, so I have reuploaded it to take advantage of this improvement in quality.

This version of my video looks rather juddery, because YouTube annoyingly duplicated every 5th frame in this 25fps video to bring the framerate up to 29.97fps. For more info on this problem, see http://google.com/support/forum/p/youtube/thread?tid=17607310c8c8806f

The new version is encoded in true 25fps, resulting in perfectly smooth animation. The quality of the encoding is also much higher - the video data rate of the 720p HD version is over 250% higher, resulting in much clearer fractal details.

I'm leaving this original video online, so that all embedded copies of this video will continue working.

  • nice vid can u explain the color? it s often blueish why is that? u choosed it?

  • @MrFlyingPanda Yes, I chose the colour palette. I've experimented with many different colour schemes for the Mandelbrot set, and this is my favourite :) The colours represent the number of iterations required for each pixel, and any colour scheme can be used.

  • Amazing work. Did you 'cut' exactly like Kubrick did?

  • @rudiangath Thanks for commenting! For the opening titles, I tried to copy the timing and style of the 2001 opening titles as accurately as possible. In the main feature, I cut to a new scene at each appropriate moment in the Blue Danube music.

  • Many thanks for all your comments guys :)
