  • The lock on and lock out is like most other behaviors. It's part of the way all humans operate because it is basically functional. The human mind deals with many complex matters. Some degree of consistency, pattern recognition, generalization, and other organizing methods is indispensable. But don't ignore what's going on in each individual situation. Otherwise you will lose your flexibility, perceptions, and judgment, which are equally functional and important.

  • That was a good post. The theorem of cognitive dissonance holds that the mind automatically and involuntarily rejects information not in line with previously held beliefs. This makes it difficult for many to even see other points of view. The lock out was a great description for it.
