I recently received an email that contained the following:

"Dear ekaj8,
Video Disabled
A copyright owner has claimed it owns some or all of the audio content in your video Home Made Pepsi Can Stove. The audio content identified in your video is What It's Like by Everlast. We regret to inform you that your video has been blocked from playback due to a music rights issue."

They gave me the option of muting the video, replacing the audio, or deleting the video. Due to the fact that I could not replace the audio without the video losing all meaning, I was forced to remove the video. All due to a corrupt record company who wouldn't let me use a song. They said they own the videos audio but they do not own my words, the ones that I had to remove. I know this is a losing battle and I am worked up over nothing. My video was educating 5,351 people and had a 4.5 star rating, it was hurting no one and was only doing good. Please don't support these huge monster recording corporations, They are too money hungry to do any good.

  • A copyright is a copyright. I am an illustrator. If someone copies a piece I do and uses it without my consent or without an arrangement to pay me then it is unethical and a form of theft. It is true that they don't have to pursue the issue ,but it is also true that you could volunteer to give away your property or to work for free. Protecting ones property rights is not corrupt. Are you a communist?

  • @Indygoguy

Why is using copyrighted material necessarily unethical? (my situation certainly was not). I had no intention of making any sort of monetary profit from my use of the content. It was used in an instructional video meant to share knowledge and educate. How was I hurting anyone in any way? More money is all that matters to people like you.

As for the communist remark... what's wrong with sharing?

    Are you a fascist?

  • @Indygoguy First off they wouldn't, second these companies act like big babies over ridiculous things. So what if someone used a song its not hurting anyone. I'm not making any money off the songs so why is it a big deal?

  • @ArmyRanger10 It is called the power of ownership. Stop taking things that don't belong to you. Did it ever occur to you to approach the company and request to use their tune? You may have been able to convince them to do it.

  • @livinthegoodlife101 Everyone wants money. That includes YOU you hypocrite. No one sells the rights to a piece of intellectual property for $1.00. Grow up and stop thinking it is somehow unjust that there are things you want but can't afford.

  • The big problem with WMG is that they want money. They aren't so corrupt as they are evil and they do this evil by instead of charging you $1 or so so you have the rights to the song they allow you to download it but if you want to use the song in a video you could have to pay from $100 to $10000 because after you pay the fee they give you the rights to the song.

  • I totally agree. I had the same problem with one of my videos hiking over the years. The song I had was from a James bond movie. The company will always have more power than us.
