In 1982, I heard that the original idea for the opening of 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' was to use the film clips referenced in 'Science Fiction / Double Feature' as backdrop for the music. I had two VHS decks and a huge pile of bad movies, so I tinkered together a version of that, just for fun, in an exhibition of The World's Crudest Video Editing.

While I was making that original version back in '82, I told my friends that someday - Someday! - I would use a computer and produce a really clean version.

They Laughed. (This was two years after the first, floppy drive-only, IBM PC came out, with MS-DOS 1.0.)

... And I said, 'I'll show them! I'll show them ALL!! Bwoo-Haaa-Haaa-Haa!!!

This is that day.

Herein, A loving tribute to Richard O'Brien, Rocky Horror, and all the great cheesy movies of yesteryear.

All music and video clips copyright their respective owners. No other copyright expressed or implied.

(Keep your fingers crossed and hope this thing renders right!)

  • Yea back row ! Thank you very much. SGG344

  • @Sgg344 You're welcome. Glad you liked it. I wanted to have folks make a game out of this - 'Try and identify all the movies from the clips'. If anyone is interested, I'll make a full list available. Also, I'm going to see if I can get some work done on the next production this weekend.

  • Thanks, guys! I've got another project in the works, if I can find time to get back to it. I don't know if you remember the 1968 TV show, 'The Prisoner', but this is one I've wanted to do almost as long as I wanted to do 'Science Fiction - Double Feature'. I have some vacation time early in August - maybe I can get to it then. Pass the URL around!

  • The original version (now the 'Director's Cut' on the DVD) seemed just a bit too NSFW to post on YouTube. So I replaced that one clip with The Doctor. Best I could find on short notice. (DVD has the YouTube version, the Director's Cut, and the original '82 VHS version.) A lot of the fun here was figuring out what movies to give the nod to.

  • Thanks. I had more luck than I deserved; this is my first (digital) video editing project. You should have seen the VHS version from 1982!

  • you mean a huge pile of fucking awesome movies!

  • Really well done!

  • @JanosBartok - I think I'd have preferred it with the original version rather than the Dr Who clip. That felt a bit odd in company with all the older stuff.

Well done for all the clips though. I didn't recognise all the films, but I could usually see the link from the lyrics to what was in the clip.

  • Really well done. I have much affection for those old films too.

  • Good job!

  • LOL, just noticed that you changed the ending quite a bit. When did you decide to put Dr Who in there?
