Until 1989 you had to be protestant to play for Glasgow rangers. This only changed when rangers wanted to enter the English league. I WOULD say that 70% of rangers fans if not more are in the orange order due to that fact. So even though rangers might have changed there rules on other religeons playing for the team. Its roots are still ground with Protestantism and the Orange Order.
