oh the cuckoo, she's a pretty bird
and she warbles as she flies
she never says cuckoo
'til the fourth day of July

jack of diamonds, jack of diamonds
I know you from old
you robbed my poor pockets
of my silver and my gold

my horses ain't hungry
and they won't eat your hay
I'll ride them a little further
I'll feed them on the way

gonna build me a log cabin
on a mountain so high
so I can see my darlin'
as she goes walking by

oh the cuckoo, she's a pretty bird
and she warbles as she flies
she never says cuckoo
'til the fourth day of July

  • Man what a great jam! I swear I never get to see stuff like this in person like you guys. Sure wish I could. How can anyone not have there fit start moving when hearing this. I can hear that old mountain man hooting and hollering.

  • Sammy (fiddle) and Caleb (mandolin, hidden behind the Rev. in this clip) are playing in SF in mid Feb. Search for the "Foghorn Duo" on MySpace. They are high energy and do a great show.

  • Wow.. Thank you so much for that info Rosario. I will be sure to go to that show. Most likely in berkeley. Riley Baugus Going to be at that show to?

    Thanks again.

  • You are very welcome! Riley Baugus won't be at that one, but they do all play together from time to time. Hope you get to go to the show and enjoy it!

  • great stuff! can't stop listening to it...

unfortunately i don't understand the lyrics.

  • I've posted more or less what they're singing in the description. I hope it helps.

  • Tim and Riley on one stage .. Now thats a bunch of power in one space . They look like they might levitate !

  • That is some jam!! If you don't tap your foot to that, you ain't alive.

  • feck! legendary stuff. original psycho trance-dance fruit bat loon tune :)

  • hot damn that stirs the blood

  • Hot jam! Check out violin guy feeling groove on the background!

  • Very good ! Good feel

  • The music is back where it came from.

  • Bravo!!!!!

  • You need to be looking for Old Time rather than Bluegrass. The latter came from the former. Amazon is quite a good source. Follow links through the names of the tunes.

  • start with ralph stanley and/or the stanley brothers. bill monroe and his bluegrass boys, lester flatt and earl scruggs. those are old timey. old crow medicine show, yonder mountain string band , allison kraus, del mccoury, are little more refined. the soundtrack to the movies "cold mountain" and "oh brother where art thou?" are quite good. my personal opinion the old stuff has some of the best vocal harmonies.
