MOST UP-TO-DATE UPDATE!: Since EDM has added Lauroyl Lysine to their products, I no longer use the NEW EDM foundation/bases or blushes. It does give the product a smooth texture, but unfortunately, I believe it made me break out. I now use Meow Cosmetics Flawless Feline foundation in Fierce Manx and am very happy with it. It contains Boron Nitride, but it doesn't seem to irritate my skin. Click here for Meow Cosmetics foundations: http://www.meowcosmetics.com/Foundation.htm

I will leave this video up as a reminder to the saying: "Leave well enough alone."...lol. EDM still has some awesome face brushes, though, and I highly recommend the Flat-Top brush and the Eye Kabuki brush for undereye concealer.

UPDATE: EDM recently changed their sample kit and it is no longer CUSTOMIZABLE. Bad move, EDM!

(Sorry about the camera quality because this is when my old camera started to die)

This is a basic rant and rave review of both powder foundations. This is MY personal experience and we are all different. =)

If I didn't mention, I use OLIVE - GOLDEN MEDIUM INTENSIVE but I've been mixing it lately with GOLDEN - WINGED BUTTER to match my skintone more.

I also love MEOW COSMETICS FLAWLESS FELINE FOUNDATION in Fierce Manx. It matches my skintone very well & they have a larger color range than EDM! Check them out here: http://www.meowcosmetics.com/Foundation.htm

EDM has 44(?) foundation shades in 6 different color families: Warm, Golden, Cool, Beige, Buff, & Olive.
*WARM: Peach tones
*GOLDEN: Yellow tones, but not as yellow as other companies
*COOL: Pink tones
*BEIGE: Yellow/Pink tones
*BUFF: Neutral tones
*OLIVE: Greenish-yellow (olive) tones

The only bad thing is that they don't offer a lot of darker toned shades, which is a huge mistake on their part. There's a whole other target market out there that they're not catering to. They recently introduced just 3 new dark-toned foundation colors.

There are also 4 FORMULATIONS you can choose from depending on your needs:
*ORIGINAL-GLO: Dewy finish, least coverage
*SEMI-MATTE: Slightly dewy
*MATTE: Matte, smooth formula
*INTENSIVE: Matte, most coverage
(Intensive lasts the longest on my oily skin and offers the best coverage. It's not as smooth as the matte formula and can be a little cakey if you apply too much.)

NOTE: All the INTENSIVE colors are darker than the other formulas of the same color. So Golden Medium Intensive is much darker than Golden Medium Matte, Semi-Matte, & Original-Glo. The latter three formulas are the same color.

I want to add an update. I love the EDM Tinted Silk Dust as a finishing powder over my foundation. If you're familiar with Bare Minerals, it's like their Mineral Veil, which I used to use also, but it's better! But, now it's been discontinued. Dang!

My current favorite FINISHING POWDER to help control oil is KRYOLAN ANTI-SHINE POWDER: http://ladylostris.blogspot.com/2009/04/oil-slick-control-powders-products.html

I said bad things about BM foundation but I do like other things in their line such as the wet/dry eyeshadow brush, Soul eyeshadow, & their refillable mirror compact.

Sorry for sounding a little groggy and hoarse. I had just woken up on a Saturday morning and this video idea popped in my head. And sorry for the lack of interesting visuals. Haha. It's all about the content.

The EDM Personal Custom Kit is now $34, rather than the $32 I said in the video.
UPDATE: They no longer offer the 6 item or 12 item kits. It's now a 5-11 item kit with a 25% discount and a 12-infinity item kit with a 45% discount. =/ This is good if you're buying items of a smaller value but if you're buying $12 bases, it's going to end up costing a little more than it used to. That's what I hate about EDM, they keep changing things or discontinuing things too much. Sometimes you just need to leave well enough alone!

  • Thanks for the review!

I am just wondering why were you using BM for 6 years if it was a 'expensive garbage'

(I understand you didn't know it was break you out, but still it was too oily for you and such.)

  • Because back then I was totally clueless and there wasn't anything else I knew of except for BM and Sheer Cover. I also had a false misconception that BM was supposed to be the best. I wasn't going to go back to liquid either and all the powder foundations I tried didn't cut. So that's why I kept on using it. Back then, there wasn't as many mineral makeup companies as there are now.

  • Maybe I missed it, but how's the coverage w/EDM? I've been using BM since it came out. I recently saw a pic of myself and couldn't believe how peachy I looked, so am now waiting on my 2nd 'try me' order from EDM to get the right level.

  • It depends on what formula you try. Intensive has the most coverage and Original-Glo has the least. Matte and Semi-Matte are in between.

  • Hey everyone! I love EDM but I now also love Meow Cosmetics Flawless Feline foundation. So if EDM didn't work out for you, then check out Meow. Thanks for watching and commenting. =)

And no, I didn't get any of this stuff for free. This is based on my own experiences. I'm just tryin' to help a sistah out...

  • EDM doesn't have much for darker skinned people...sadly

  • I know, they need to do something about that because they are not serving the needs of a large group.

  • this is so weird, before i went out to look at these, i always confused the two products with one another lol!

  • Wow great comparison! I am going to try the everday minerals. Especially because I have oily skin to.

  • Ewww chalk based not sure I would care for that MAC product

  • Hey! Thanks for your review! I was just about to go to bare escentuals to try bare minerals, but as I looked for a review I ran across this. I'm glad I did too! It's great to hear that there's a cheaper AND better brand out than the typical expensive kind. Everyday minerals sounds great!

  • Great video. I use to use bare minerals also and the bismuth killed my face, when i would sweat just a liitle my whole face felt like it was on fire and i would break out in hives. I have the same skin as you like you stated, i did join mary kay a couple months ago and they have awesome products for foundations that work great on my skin, let me know if you would like to try MK i would love to get your opinion on their products. Thanks

  • i TOO am totally allergic to the bismuth .. i tried BM and it made my face break out in hives and it felt like i was being stung by bees! i LOVE everyday minerals!

  • Bare Minerals now has a Matte option... it works really really well!

  • hello, i use the 'light' shade in bare minerals. which shade of everyday minerals do u suggest for me? i think i'll be needing the intensive base since i live in the caribbean and the climate here is very warm, so my usually oily skin tends to be even more oily !. i'll be grateful for any help at all.

  • what did your shade turn out to be in EDM?

  • Thanks for all the info. I used Aromaleigh and am searching for something new. I got the bare minerals yesterday in matte, which doesn't have bismuth. But it does have lauroyl lysine, silica, calcium silicate, and 'soil minerals.' Hmmm...At least I like the locking container. I ordered meow samples, but am having trouble finding a good match. I'm also gun shy that Meow might go away like Aromaleigh did. Once bitten and all...
