Evidence of a wooden circle near Stonehenge has been described as the most important archaeological find at the site for decades. . Follow us on twitter at http://twitter.com/itn_news .
However, it might just reduce the number of tourists on the site, which wouldn't be a bad thing. A lot just want to see it and tick it off a list of things they've done. After they go home with their souvenirs it's forgotten about. What needs to change is education. Our schools need to be teaching more about our prehistoric past to finally banish the absurd generalisations of shaggy cavemen and The Flintstones.
@0868896593 I agree there's a vested interest in supporting the mystery angle as it brings in a lot of tourism, but even before the media representation, people have been coming to stonehenge for centuries. Back then they were ignorant to its purpose. Information tended to be lorded by archaeologists & historians. We live in a more enlightened age where information is freely available & people are more curious. It's wrong to suggest if Stonehenge is ever solved that people's interest will stop.
Amazing how much can be theorised without digging a single hole. Someone's clearly jumped the gun here. It poses an enigma. An irregular circle of pits with an intrusive burial mound. Not looking much like a henge to me, and we cant form an opinion that the holes contained wood without excavating. It's been suggested that it's a burial mound with pits around it, perhaps part of an earlier mortuary enclosure. After all, where was it found? In a field near to a well known barrow group.
@kargenlewis if the mystery disappears then so does the revenue in tourism it creates... you and i will not be fooled for wee have rocks all around us to look at..
