Silly sod scares a van driver, not to mention the fact he was riding on the pavement (aren't moped riders supposed to push it to the road unless its a dropped kerb - I could be wrong?)... he then cuts through a small gap between me and the concrete roundabout.

No harm done but I lost momentum from having to brake. He wouldnt have wanted me up his arse now would he (or maybe thats what he intended, haha!!) Would have been surely more sensible for him to get past me on the bridge.

This is probably only the second time I've ever had problems with moped riders. The other was a few years back when two lads were racing (I can only presume), ducked under my indicating arm on the same RAB to get to the toll booth. Then on the actual bridge one undertook a car and shoulder barged me in the process. Sped off before I had a chance to catch the plates.

  • Was that a (L)earner plate on his moped ? I thought L platers had to have someone with them to learn. Or was he teaching himself ?

  • In the UK you're allowed to ride alone on L plates after you've done your CBT test. A bit like cycle proficiency it teaches you the basics of using the vehicle and road safety. There are also police checks every now and then on the road, and a deadline by which to complete the full test (2 years I think).

  • @downfader2

yes - CBT lasts for two years but you can then take another instead of taking a full test. i think that for all powered two wheelers you should be made to take a full test and also be made to go on a police bikesafe course within a short period of time.

  • @em8457 Yeah I've recently found out an old workmate of mine is doing that. I think he's silly really as if he passes he can move up to a bigger engine and enjoy that too. Makes you wonder if the insurance is cheaper too?

  • Nice vid ... I think it's another example of a zero thought manoeuvre. They really need to provide explicit training in car and bike tests on how to treat vulnerable road users (although that chap had only done his CBT, there's no excuse). Certainly when I passed my car test in 1992 and by bike test in 1997 there was no mention of this aspect of driving. Luckily I was already a keen cyclist so knew what to do. Sorry ... waffling a bit :)

  • Its a shame you couldnt see the van driver's face. A real "WTF!!?" moment as he must have thought the rider was about to scoot off infront of him for a second.

What was really funny was he didnt appear to be able to get the gas on when he did it. I think he was in the wrong gear LOL!!

Still time for him to learn I think.

  • @roadmonitoroz infact your definatly from another country as the bike test has been made even harder, as has the car test...lol

  • @roadmonitoroz wrong!!!! in a car they must be accompanied but on a bike this is impossible- without having them on the back which is stupid if your a learner! you can ride up to a 125cc with provisional license and L plates for 2 years with a CBT- its when you pass your CAR test they advise you use p plates to advise others you have just passed.... i think you may be from a different country...

  • @ssr1234rss thats a bit of a broad statement isnt it i assume you base this on national statistics? or is it just your own personal view

  • @downfader2 im in the same position, my cbt runs out in september, but im just going to renew it as to tke the full test would cost a bare minimum of £300 ish and thats without the essential training which is another £300 ish! plus the fact iv been riding a scoot, which dont have gears, means i would have to get used to gears again, which iv never used on the road.... everyone has their reasons...

  • This is hilarious, I have never laughed so much at a video in my life!

  • what a wanker you are. camera on your head what a prick
