Short video of a counting module by Greg Dykstal displayed at BrickFest 2006. It mechanically detects each ball, and advances a mechanical counter to display it to the crowd.
Each time a ball goes through, it briefly throws a LEGO polarity switch, which an attached RCX can detect. Whenever the RCX detects another ball running through the mechanism, it runs a motor briefly to increment a "odometer-like" detector. Voila', a ball-counter.
really neat, but what does it do?
