Smart grid and smart metering technology will be needed to incorporate renewable energy from wind, solar and geothermal sources. The economic recovery package provided 1 billion for smart grid technology and development and an additional billion for renewable energy transmission construction. Chairman Edward J. Markey and the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming held a hearing entitled, "Get Smart on the Smart Grid: How Technology Can Revolutionize Efficiency and Renewable Solutions" on Wednesday February 25th, 2009 at 9:30 AM EST. There IS NO Grid. That Electric Grid is balogny. It's called a Management System. 10,000 Miles of Electric Lines from Power Plants.

Because of the smart meter I can not install my solar system. the wait is 18 months to be considered. the power companies are using the so called smart meter to punish people that try to use solar energy. in only 1 hr enough energy hits the surface of the earth that if harnessed could provide enough energy for the entire world for 1 yr - see solar energy wikipedia under "energy from the sun" this politician is lieing or doesn't know what he is talking about.

this guy has his facts mixed up.  the smart grid is not only anti-alternative power it is a health hazard.

It's just the opposite. the smart grid punished people that try to use solar systems. You have to go through more hoops than the analog meters to utilize solar energy. You need a net metering device. For my electric company you have to wait for 18 months just to be considered for approval for a supplemental ongrid system. Not only that these systems are dangerous because they emit radiation and each smart meter is connected to your neighbors forming a dangerous grid to the power station.
