@ccm800: Oh her power is still very real. She can dissolve parliaments, dismiss Prime Ministers, make or dismiss laws and has whole load of other powers too. I wish that Americans would stop calling Her the "Queen of England" as the title hasn't existed since 1707. They should have correctly in context called her the Queen of Canada or Queen of the UK at the very least.

I thought the queen had no real governmental power any more? WTF?

LOL, Canada is still Brit colony.

Any Canadian that does not know that the Queen is the head of the state ought to be ashamed

what the hell does The Queen of England have to do with Canada???wha????
Technically, the head of state of Canada is the Queen of Canada, not explicitly the Queen of England.
Obviously however, the two crowns are linked. The Queen of England is actually the Queen of many countries. While it is literally correct to say the Queen of England is the Canadian head of state, it is not 'technically' correct.

Sigh. Yeah. We do have our problems.
Funny that I hadn't heard about this IN CANADA and I had to see it on Rachel Maddow.
