This movie is both powerful and depressing. I really didn't believe a relative long time ago when she said that Capucine's role was that of a lesbian hooker, with Barbara as her lover. I can see that years later. It's so tragic that it can be hard to watch; that's what you call good moving making none-the-less. Thanks!

FTYI: this clip is featured in the film of Vito Russo's book on homosexuality in the movies the entertaining and sympathetic Celluloid Closet, which of course identifies closet lesbianism as the drive for this astounding display of female-female emotion. Both actors are superb! Again, thanks.

Thanks for your response to my comment. I hope you get a chance sometime to see the whole movie. I know TCM (Turner Classic Movies) shows it every so often. It's no classic...but lots of high camp fun! :)

Heavens to Murgatroid! Strong stuff! Though Saul Bass' title sequences at the beginning & the end are better than the rest of the movie. A fella once swore to me he recalls seeing a scene in this film wherein Ms Stanwyck spanks Capucine with a hairbrush. I've seen the movie a few times on TV (though it's been years) but recall no such scene. In any case, THANKS for posting this powerful scene! CHEERS! :-)
