ABS-CBN TFC Oman correspondent Rowen M. Soldevilla reported last Oct. 2, 2009 over Balitang Middle East on the sufferings of 22 Filipino seamen who were held captive for five months by the Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden. They were onboard a Dutch MV Irene EM going to India to download phosphate (fertilizers) when they were hijacked by high calibered Somali pirates. The ship owner paid $2 million ransom for their release according to the Filipino ship captain Necitas Garcia.
