Princess Diana Inquest - Fayed Gives His Evidence - MI6 Responds - Martyn Gregory Reports - 23/2/08

Martyn Gregory, author of the acclaimed book about the death of Princess Diana, "Diana: The Last Days" reported for Sky News on the goings-on at the Inquest throughout its six month duration. In his report broadcast on 23 February 2008, he reported on Fayed's evidence to the inquest and the media circus it caused.

Chris Roberts at the beginning refers to those who claimed the inquest had descended into farce on Fayed's appearance. Their claims were based on the sheer number of people Fayed accused of involvement in murder, including Diana's own sister, some of her close friends as well as Tony Blair, the CIA and dozens of others. Gregory then describes the response of the former head of MI6, Sir Richard Dearlove, to Fayed's allegations later that week.

The inquest also heard from the widow of French Papparazzo James Andanson who has been persistently accused of ramming Diana's Mercedes with his unroadworthy Fiat Uno. His widow provided conclusive testimony and documentary evidence that the allegations surrounding him are nonsensical.

Fayed's evidence turned out in retrospect to be a turning point in the inquest. It became increasingly apparent there was nothing sinister behind the Princess's death and the conspiracy theories were a mere fabrication designed to deflect blame. The jury's verdict delivered on 7 April rejected any notion of murder or foul play and declared that the deaths were due to the actions a drunk employee of Mohammed Fayed and the papparrazzi.

is fayed not just saying all this to take the blame off his own head?? i mean his islamic son was with a woman who couldnt be more british, to me this sounds like an honour killing. What if fayed could not stand the thought of his muslim son being with an infide?? Fayedm was the one that told di and dodi to leave the ritz? henri paul was employed by Fayed for more than 11 years!!! is this not where his mysterious large amounts of momey came from?

@casey8182 I completely agree, I've read Tom Bower's biography of Fayed and I think it's very likely that the mysterious money came from Henri Paul's employer as reward for spying on the guests at the Ritz. If Paul was an agent of any organisation, it was the Al Fayed organisation. I don't think it was a so-called honour killing though, it was just an accident. It smacks a bit of racism to claim it was an honour killing just because they were muslim.

Not strictly true. The police came round to my family's house one day to say a relative had died in a car crash. There was no reason to disbelieve them and they were proved correct by the evidence, It was a constable involved with Ian tomlinson, get your facts right.

He was in on the murder and sacrifice of his own son.. he is lying as usual and part of the very cabal he claims to despise,, and if we are talking about coming from nothing and nowhere.. lying and cheating your way to the top then Fayed is the biggest example of that.! we was a fruit seller who stole money from the Sultan of Brunei to buy harrods.

Even is name is fake.! 'Al' is a title his ego has adopted, he is certainly no 'prince'.

I'm not related to Diana but those that are (Fayed is not related to her regardless of what he may claim) fully supported the findings of the police investigation into these absurd allegations. Her sons pleaded "we hope [the police's] conclusive findings will put speculation about our mother's death at an end" or something like that.

what war? If there was one planned in 97, I think it would have happened by now. I don't she, or most people for that matter, were to predict Bush's theft of the 2000 American election and the disaster it visited upon humanity at that time.
