i'm not sure. maybe trejo just doesn't want to be onstage in the spotlight and prefers to help them from behind, just like jeremy ward used to do.
i don't know if paul was an excellent second guitar player, because at the 2 volta shows i've been where he has been playing, i didn't even hear him. but to be honest, i don't really care.

@4dharm its very poor i think, they had a excellent second guitar player and they fired him and now mr trejo has to play the guitar as a tech... but theyre even great
