Vedanta Aluminium promotes Self Help Group at Lanjigarh, in the district of Kalahandi, Orissa

The help the members of the local communities to stand on their own feet own and to increase solidarity among them, Vedanta Aluminium Limited has formed 33 Self Help Groups or SHGs in its area of operation. A total number of 345 women have been covered under this scheme and 126 of them are engaged in some income generating activities like leaf-plate making, phenyl making, tailoring & mushroom cultivation. These women not only contribute in supplementing the family income but enhance quality of life and feel a sense of pride in their self-worth. One of the SHG members has won a state level award in the tribal SHG category from The Tribal Development Task Force or TDTF
