With dynamic brakes on, and a sick sounding horn, RJ Corman's (ex-SP) Tunnel motors drop down grade to the connection with the CXS (ex-C&O) at Thurmond W.Va... It will pick up two CSX units at the end of the bridge to work the coal train back up the hill, and back down with the loads. Jackmp294...

  • Great video! Is there any predictable days they run on? Hoping to visit next summer, and would love to see them come up the hill.

  • @SLSF1522 No predictable days that I know of. Always hit or miss. Just listen to the scaner, and follow the entire line, and you may run accross something. Good luck, and thanks for watching. Jackmp294...

  • wheres does Corman interchange the big unit coal trains with CSX at?? Do they just tie it down on RJ Corman's side of the river or do they put them into the siding next to the Thurmond depot?? was just wondering

  • @Conraildan Corman crosses the bridge, gets on the CSX, and sets out, or picks up the cars on a siding east of Thurmond. I think its a few miles east of the bridge, but not sure on that. CSX usually sets out so locomotives also to be used as helpers up and down the hill...

  • Pleasexplain what was happening at the end of your video.

    Another train in the way?

When did the crossing signals beyond the bridge activate?

(Or did they not activate because the other train was still in the crossing signal circuit?)

  • RJC was delivering the cars to CSX interchange. CSX hands off a empty coal train to RJC to take back up the hill. They need the extra CXS power to get up the hill. RJC will back the cars on a siding, then couple to the engines and go down to the CSX siding to pickup the hoppers. The activation to the crossing lights is activated on the mainline, and these units are on the branch...

  • Tunnel motors are unmistakable! They sound great and have you thinking about SP on the Cajon Pass.

  • Right at 2:10 looks like just a beautiful place to watch trains! Awesome video!!!

  • SUUUUPEEERRRRR GOOD VIDEO,?

  • Interesting crossing setup with the landscape and all, great video!!

  • I see someone else noticed the Tunnel motors as well. And I agree SP AND Rio Grande are both RR I remember the tunnel motors on. You can still see the effects of SP on the units. The rear of the unit still has the bracket where the famous SP light package was. GREAT!

  • A lot has changed since this shot was made, the whistle on 8718 for one, the loss of Georgia Pacific and coal train activity as well. No set schedule for train moves on the Loup Ck. Branch. Upgrades made to the rial structure completed, Tie Program to start soon and the coal trains rumble with CSX power in tow, RJC units are the helper set out of Pax,WV. Back when this was shot, the CSX units were kept behind the derail per CSX Rules in place after the coal train was done.

  • @1jackdk

  • man, he finally let off the horn. 2nd crossing
