Interesting. It would seem the banning of the film gave it a notoriety that prob contributed a great deal to its fame and later, love. Had it never been so hated I doubt it would have ever been l so loved.

Well, feel free to begin anywhere you like, as that last comment you wrote is totally useless, faux-smug patheticness.
My comment represents my personal opinion on Kubrick's oeurve, so I'm afraid it isn't "wrong", any more than your non-existent rebuttal could be "right".
A Clockwork Orange is like Carry On Kubrick, Barry Lyndon is inept and boring, Full Metal Jacket contains the line "Let's get some payback!", and Eyes Wide Shut is...

One of the life altering moments in my life wa my first viewing of A Clockwork Orange on HBO over twenty five years ago. I couldn't grasp the true "meaning" of the film and enjoyed the more visceral aspects but now appreciate the many layers beneath the gloss. Kubrick's genius was to bury subversive ideas under these very bright and deceptive images, which hooked the eye and planted those seeds. I still have yet to fully understand the film which is what distinguishes the great from mediocre.

A Clockwork Orange is a dreadful piece of tripe.
...Well, maybe that's a bit rough, but I strongly disagree with the idea that A Clockwork Orange even closely compares to such works of brilliance as The Killing, Paths of Glory, Spartacus, Lolita, Dr Strangelove, 2001 or The Shining.
Perhaps it is better than Fear and Desire (never seen it), Killer's Kiss (ditto), Barry Lyndon (utterly pointless), Full Metal Jacket (stupid) or Eyes Wide Shut (a shameful embarrassment).
