  • What were the settings on your dyna comp?

  • @dacacadaniel

    hi

    output is on 12 o'clock

    sensivity is on 10 o'clock

  • Thinking seriously about this amp. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but..... I'm ready to move away from the Fender sound for awhile, tho it is a great sound. Gotta spread my tonal wings. Noticed "Lenny" (?) sounded much like SRV. I believe he used Vox for a long while, did he not? Anyway, great sound! Great playing!

  • hi, thanx a lot

but be careful, for this clean sound, iuse mxr dynacomp

without it, it's not so good

  • does this amp sound good with vintage distortion pedals like the vox wah wah or the dallas arbiter or jimi hendrix fuzz face??????????????? i need help

  • hi

i have the wah vox 847, and the sound is good, not great but good

like you can see, at the left there is an hendrix fuzz, but it sound very bad with the vox

  • What were the settings on your dyna comp?

  • American Strats and this amp sound great together...in my opinion. :)

  • @bluestudio67

I've never heard of SRV using Vox. I know Rory Gallagher definitely did, but either way, if you're spreading your tonal wings, why do you care what OTHER people sound like?? Just sayin;) Happy hunting!

  • @bluestudio67 - Dumbles were JUST the first boutique type maker at that time, who tried to recapture and make amps the way they were made, during Buddy Holly's Time.

    So SRV used them.

    1) old tube amp that can't distort but has an open airy / natural sound

    2) vintage Fender guitar

    3) pure nickel strings (NOT NICKEL WRAP) tuned down - heavy gauge 13

    4) stick an old school ibanez ts9

    5) add talent!

  • @bluestudio67 - My pleasure...almost forgot the one crucial element in SRV's sound. The Ibanez tube screamer! Basically, I've found that what it comes down to is:

Srv took the old tube amps that had really beautiful airy sounds THAT WERE BUILT BEFORE THE ADVENT OF DISTORTION AND BASICALLY PUT A TUBE SCREAMER IN FRONT OF THE SIGNAL.

    THAT'S IT...TRY IT YOURSELF...USE PURE NICKEL STRINGS

USING OLD GEAR WITH A GREAT OVERDRIVE IN FRONT OF IT.

    I call it....VINTAGE PLUS - OR...MODERN RETRO, LOL!

  • @novanine9 Thanks, man. I had no idea he used Dumbles... Very cool, indeed. Yet another case of getting my info from sites that aren't accurate :)

  • @bluestudio67 - No, actually....SRV's secret sound came from:

    1) Dumble amps

    2) Fender Bandmaster - the open sound that you are chasing

    3) Nickel Rockers 13 gauge, tuned down 2 steps to D

The closest is John Mayer, who uses SRV's former tech - youtube Rig rundown / john mayer.
