This is The Highland Dirk Dance as 'collected' by Mary Isdale McNab in Vancouver Canada. She taught this to Prof. Tom Flett - with the strict instruction that it only ever be taught to one other person. So he taught it to John Wesenraft (in kilt) who, after Tom passed away, then taught it to Jane Lloyd (ne Flett), Tom Flett's daughter (in kilt far right). This is the only known recording of the dance at a teaching workshop in 1996 at the Reading Cloggies Festival of Step and Clog Dance. Notation for the dance can be found in Traditional Step Dances of Scotland by Tom and Joan Flett. Thanks to Prof. Tony Barrand for processing the recording from VHS tape. See: his DVRA - The Digital Video Research Archive of Morris, Sword, and Clog Dancing at Boston University - for more information. Further info. re: dirk and other fighting dances can be found at: [dirkdance DOT tripod DOT com]
