Piccola Pupa - Break Away (aka Breakaway, Break-A-Way)

Another version of Jackie DeShannon's "Breakaway", in English by Italian singer.
Released versions have been by Irma Thomas and Tracey Ullman, but I don't know whether or not this version was ever released nor the date of the recording.
Piccola was a "sensation" for a short time, appearing on several Ed Sullivan shows, and quite a few "Make Room For Daddy" TV episodes, both as a character and as herself (during the 1963-64 season).
I distinctly remember seeing her in one episode where she sang "Ciao Ciao Bambina" but can't recall the others. Apparently "Ciao Ciao Bambina" was released as a single, as was an album, but can't find any more info on the internet about this.
In 1966 she appeared in the film "Ghost In The Invisible Bikini" and then seemed to disappear from sight, no current updates can be found on her.
Apparently the powers that be thought that if one teen Italian singer had a Top 40 U.S. hit (Rita Pavone with "Remember Me"), then two would be even better, but Piccola never had chart success in the U.S.

Why Piccola's career didn't flourish in America I'll never know; thanks for making this recording available for the many fans who still miss her! I got the "Ghost in the Invisible Bikini" DVD just to get her "Stand Up and Fight" number. She really lit up the screen whenever she appeared; the charm and personality she showed at fifteen was amazing.

It was fun finding this track on a girl-groups cd I had, but I also look forward to finding a copy of your entire LP as I continue with my LP hunting.

Also, now that they are still releasing more of the old "Make Room For Daddy" episodes on DVD, I look forward to the one that has you performing "Ciao Ciao Bambina", so that I can see it again after all these years.

Many thanks Wally1435! As a kid, I had a huge crush on Piccola Pupa after seeing her on MAKE ROOM FOR DADDY. My cool and very dear Mom(God bless her)bought Piccola's album for me,and took me to see GHOST IN THE INVISIBLE BIKINI when it came out in 1966. Always wondered what happened to Piccola.

I remember you too, Piccolo. I was just a little kid, but I admired you so much. I remember it made me happy just to hear you sing. Like someone else said, you lit up the room, and the t.v. screen. You had a big impact on a lot of people!

This is just the best ever. I have searched for some time trying to find out what happened to Piccola Pupa and now here she is. I loved her then and I love her now. She has such a wonderful voice... I had such a crush on her... ah the memories...
