Some recently discovered Super-8 footage of skateboarding action on the streets of Newport Beach and at the legendary Irvine skatepark (R.I.P.). Shot in 1976 and early 1977, here are some freestyle moves that were very in long before ollies took over. A downhill run in Big Canyon andsome smooth moves on the lips of the free Irvine skate run -- and over the lips thanks to some plywood extensions. Featuring Bill Sharp with cameos by Steve Shipp, Alan Lopez, Richard Knight and others whose names are long forgotten. (Sorry about the music...it was originally edited to Led Zep's Communication Breakdown but the YouTube music police shut it down...)
This skate park is still there but you will have to dig .. They coverd it up with dirt.. My dad is ALAN LOPEZ

used to hit the run every day I could...short board, lond board, was all good....great memories of 6 years of good riders, good friends and only one concussion when I dropped in the bowl at the bottom and my back truck hung on the lip...ouch!!!!

Such a shame that we did away with the skateboard park in Irvine. Lots of good stuff was ruined because of greedy insurance companies and people who are afraid of all risk. The roller rink was closed down because of that, and even our after school art program had to close! Too many fearful people.
