This is a shortened version of a Standard Honors funeral at Arlington National Cemetery. This sequence includes taps and a 21-gun salute.

It was an honor to film this. Thanks to the Sherrill family for suggesting I share it.

Music: Christopher Lennertz, "Dogs of War", Medal of Honor, EA

I chose this music because it conveys the emotion that was on the wind on this sombre day. Apart from the obvious, it is otherwise a very quiet ceremony.

Shot on a Canon 5D with supporting JVC HM100s; KesslerCrane

  • No to be a stickler, but a "21 Gun salute" is presidents and heads or state. It is assumed that because there are three rounds fired by 7 personnel this is a "21 Gun Salute" when for real it is 3 volleys. It is not how many people fire but how many shots are fired from what ever weapon. The 21 gun salute uses battery or artillary pieces, where as the 3 volley salute uses rifles (sometimes shot guns or hand guns for pplice funerals)

  • Awesome video but the girl at the end doesn't know what she's talking about. She said every other service uses 8 body bearers? I'm in the Air Force Honor Guard and we only use 6. I'm pretty sure all the services use only 6. Not just Marines. Other than that comment this was pretty cool.

  • If I die in the combat zone, Box me up and ship me home, Pin my medals upon my chest,

Tell my Mom I done my best, Tell my lady not to cry, Because the Marine Corps motto is Do or Die!

I Salute you my fallen Brother.

  • R.I.P.

  • Lost my granddaddy yesterday. He was a war veteran. He got salutes and was buried by soldiers. <3 I miss you, Papaw.

  • I cried. I can not have a dry eye whenever TAPS is played. I hold my ground in a funeral against the tears, then they bring TAPS, and It just comes out.
