Sounds like a Deville DTS with a L37. Leave the gear at 1st and when it reaches redline it will automatically shift to upper gear. Or just floor it from the dead stop. The result is the same.
@watso64 I had an older DeVille ('99) and it would get about 18 mpg in town driving it the way I like to (Punching it here and there). On the highway with an easy foot though it would get 26 mpg easy. These DeVilles are a highway cruiser first and foremost, if you do a lot of start and stop you'll drop back into the teens for mileage.
You do not need to wind out the gears like that in these cars...
Put it in 2nd and leave it there. It will up-shift every gear at 6500 until it hits 4th.
LD8's and L37's both allow this. The 4T80e is a great HD tranny.
