@uhartchristian Don't forget Moura Lympany - another great, great pianist who never had the renomé of Hess, Haskil or Novaes, but was terrific. How about Eunice Norton? Thank God for YouTube where we can rediscover these tremendous, lesser-known keyboard giants.

A great pianist who had no problems playing four concertos in one concert. This is a lovely performance. She was underrated by the snobs of music because she was glamorous, changed her dress during recitals and appeared in films. She was very popular especially during the war years when she brought colour to the war torn bombed cities of the uk.

@Mapesbury100 - I wished I could have seen her- her playing is extraordinary- one of the most deserving artists I ever heard- I am trying to find her recordings especially the 1st & 3rd Chopin Ballades-

Beautiful playing! I prefer this to Marguerite Long's slightly more 'bravura' performance- though that is also wonderful.

Beautiful! Virtuosity, great expressiveness and lovely sound - ideal combination. Must investigate other Eileen Joyce recordings of Faure. Marguerite Long gives what is perhaps a more bravura performance which I also like very much, but I prefer Eileen Joyce's.

Eileen Joyce was one of the best 20th century pianists. What a pity she was so underrated... why would a Myra Hess or Clara Haskil be more appreciated? Much as I love and appreciate the two, Ms. Joyce was no worse just because she played in films.

I remember going to many of Eileen Joyce's recitals. She always wore a beautiful dress and surprised the audience by changing into a different one after the intermission. She was always on the BBC either as soloist or with an orchestra..
