This is Pedipalp, a phidippus audax jumping spider. She was really docile to the point she seems tamed. I would say the cutest part of the video is when she does a "salute" with her right pedipalp. I know I have quite a bit of "cute" jumping spider vids, but I never get tired of these jumpers. Pedipalp was released on May 30, she is back living in the wild where I found her. She has been my favorite spider since I really got into jumpers, which is when I recorded the video of a platycryptus undatus and titled it World's Cutest Jumping Spider on My Finger. There are vids of spiders on Youtube that depict spiders in so many ways, from being creepy, a big spider attacking a Daddy, a Mama, a cat, or whatever else they have. Then there are a lot of pet spiders, world largest spiders, spiders on national geographic. Then there are the funny videos like those by Zack Scott with the "giant kitchen spider" or other giant spiders he finds. His videos are hilarious, I love watching them from time to time. Another vid I like is "big spider attacks daddy", by leokimvideo. Then there are the jumping spider vids, these really are the ones that got me into spiders and handling spiders. As I saw the vids of jumpers, cute came to my mind, especially after I had recorded my first handling of a jumping spider, and that would be the "worlds cutest jumping spider on my finger" video. Many people will say something nice about jumpers which are the salticidae group of spiders, but there are those who still say jumpers look creepy or disgusting. I guess cuteness is in the eye of the beholder. Thomas Shahan(terser) and Bob(BobCsAll) really got me into jumping spiders with their videos. Gotta love the jumpers.

  • She is actually P. regius. You can distinguish this species from P. audax by the oval spot patterns on the abdomen.

  • @TheAlanJeon What you're stating is with the males. The P. regius females aren't black, only the males are black. The male regius and audax are the ones people can confuse with each other, but the females are easy to tell apart. If you go to TheTyro's Youtube Channel, she has a video with a male regius mating a female regius. It's a great video for seeing the difference between a female regius and a female audax.

  • She is so sweet! =) I hadn't realized one of her second legs is atrophied too. Have you run across any theories what might have caused it? I love that they can still be great hunters, despite the disabling of a limb or two.

  • @SisterOfKarn I watched a Phidippus Audax snatch a leg off of a big wolf spider one time. Then the spider sat there and ate the leg and didn't bother with catching the wolf spider until she finished eating the leg. She went back to the wolf spider and killed it and ate the spider. The wolf spider sat there like nothing had happened, so the audax ended up getting him. I have a feeling this is why legs are missing on some spiders, they must have made narrow escapes.

  • how did it not bite u?

  • @MrPivotmaster56 I handle her right and in this video she is so used to me. She would hop on my hand with no hesitation. In one part of the video, she actually starts to rest on my hand. If I had not moved it, she would actually sit there for hours. I handled this spider the day I found her, she isn't skittish and has never displayed any aggressive actions towards me. When bird shadows hit the window, she will hide under my hand for protection if she sees the shadows.

  • Very Very Very beautiful this movie

  • @TheAlanJeon

It seems that I have mistaken that P. audax with P. regius. I thought that those white marks on the abdomen were oval in shape but after watching them closely, it seems that they are not oval as than those in P. regius. Sorry about that.

  • @Torn80cj Some P. regius female are black in color. Check on the bugguide. Female P. regius can also be distinguished from P. audax by the tuft of hair on their cephalothorax. P. regius has shorter and less denser hair, making them look kinda bold in appearance at certain angle, while P. audax longer hair and more denser hair on their cephalothorax.

  • 4:02 peekaboo :D

  • It's adorable and terrifying all in one!

  • She's a beauty! Jumping spiders just seem more intelligent than other spiders. I can't figure out if it's just in the way they move or seem to be always curious. Most people I know would run screaming, yet I find myself saying "awwww so cute!" - They are marvelous creatures!

  • I think when it looked at you it was like "daddy :: )"

  • haha she keep looking up at you or the camera xD
