Tuberculosis, an ancient disease, kills 1.7 million people each year, almost all in the developing world. Health experts say the death toll is likely to grow because new drug-resistant strains have emerged. Leta Hong Fincher reports on tuberculosis and new photographs of its victims.To view more of Nachtwey's photos and find out about the disease, visit www.xdrtb.org.

  • @Barbiedawlxo hahah

  • is that any treatmtnt in case of M.D.R. positive pationt. without 27 month long treatment. how is the use of kanamycin. can dots are fully effective ? what do u say ?

  • @dgldrhyde Indeed, many human pathogens can make lessions or symptoms mimicking those or tuberculosis like Hystoplasma, Coccidioides or Pneumocystis, & although Mycobacterium tuberculosis is very a common infectous agent involved in pulmonary tuberculosis is not the only mycobacteria involved in this disease

  • @ershad85 You're asking me for a sputum negative lab test... to diagnosis tb you can use a Chest X ray, CLINIC, use a PPD test or even you can use PCR for tuberculosis, lung biopsy, Batec 460 tb... If all result negative, MAYBE ITS NOT A TB... it can be a fungus like Coccidioidomycosis, you know, the endemic spore at the south of US and north of Mexico, and some places of south america, hystoplasmosis, lung cancer, linfoma, pneumonia, etc... also you can practice an ELISA blood test for HIV...

  • @dgldrhyde what happen when Sputum for acid fast bacilli test

    Z.N.Stain = not seen

    Auramine Stain = Not seen
