Aria from Cantata No.147 by Johann Sebastian Bach. Conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt.

High Quality: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgLmLuRSDl8&fmt=22

Schäme dich, o Seele, nicht,
Deinen Heiland zu bekennen,
Soll er dich die Deine nennen
Vor des Vaters Angesicht!
Denn wer ihn auf dieser Erden
Zu verleugnen sich nicht scheut,
Soll von ihm verleugnet werden,
Wenn er kommt zur Herrlichkeit!

  • Bernarda Fink, l'unique. On ne se lasse pas de la regarder et de l'écouter chanter. Quelle leçon de chant vous nous donnez ! Bravo

  • Just a little bit? I just cannot understand why no-one but us seems to hear it. They should've corrected it in the beginning, now for the whole piece you can not but get distracted by the hobo from the beautiful voice :(

  • It's not an all-or-nothing proposition. It's surely not necessary to "return to those days" in order to perform church music circa 1200-1900 without female voices. This is simply the historically correct way to perform it, and since you call yourself a traditionalist, you should advocate this. This conductor has recorded this Bach cantata (and many others) without female voices.

  • @1banders You are quite right. Those who would return to those days need to eliminate all female voices.

  • @P1B1U1H1 But the tradition in church music, from medieval times until the early 19th century, had been to use boys or falsettists to sing the high parts. So how can you call yourself a traditionalist?

  • what was the instrument that the woman was playing?

  • @starbreez3 Who are you to denigrate Mr. Mickey Mouse & Mr. Rocket J. Squirrel, you wiseacre? That pair will continue to thrill millions long after the demise of the current trend of replacing talented women singers by men who can not sing without first inhaling helium. What panjandrum determined there was benefit to reminding audiences that giving glory to God required the worst possible human rights violations?

  • @P1B1U1H1 Ridiculous and mischievous claiming about countertenors. Countertenors have absolutely nothing, nothing, to do with Castrati. You should try to research more before trying to sound like a smart-ass.

And why apart from Andreas Scholl? You probably know nothing about classic music either. Just because, maybe, he's the most known Countertenor doesn't mean he's the best. He got a very good technique. That's all, I've heard better timbre than his.

  • I only discovered Jane Bryden today. Saw a film she sang in called 'Jane Austen in Manhattan' this afternoon and was so impressed by her voice. This is lovely.

  • Marie Wolf, Oboe d'amore! Wir wollen uns nicht schämen, unseren Heiland Jeshua Ha Maschiach zu bekennen!

  • Marie Wolf, Oboe d'amore!

  • Bernarda Fink was simply amazing in the aria Erbarme Dich on Harnoncourt's latest recording of Matthaus Passion.
