Recorded at a Christmas concert by Paul Whitman in 1938.
Shaw had no rehearsal at this, he basically turned up and improvised the whole thing.
An absolutely wonderful recording of shaws improvisational ability and virtuosity, note the full register glissando at the end, right from the bottom of the clarinet to the top.
You wont find this anywhere else! Hope you enjoy!
All queries for use of this etc please ask!
Wonderful music and surprisingly good sound. Thank you for a real treat.

Benny was the best in technique...
Artie sayed that Benny played clarinet but him played music...
I like this two differences.
This guy can play!
Wow!
Everything was improvised.
Oh yeah....

My great thanks to you for finding this and sharing it. I have tried to find this particular recording for years! It took place in Carnege Hall on Christmas night of 1938 and the LP of it has been out of production for a very long time.

As I recall, this was entirely Improvised! Who said Artie was just a rote, uninspired player? Not me....

Thank you a million times for sharing this... I've had this on a laptop, which got stolen from me and since then I couldn't find it... I'm soooo glad that you've uploaded this... Now I can remind myself of the stunning feeling I've had the first time I've heard this... Thank you again :)
