The arrows have blunt rubber covered tips. Nevertheless, wouldn´t be good to get hit in the eye :-( unfortunately one guy did, since he was looking at the arrows flying towards him. The swords a real steel, but not pointy not sharp...of course. We want to play, not kill each other. I´ve been there in 2006 with the Franco Flemic Contingent..FFC. We were fighting on the norman right flank.

@Bcronin1stknight Hi there. Are you aware of any exact dates for this? can anyone just turn up to watch or will tickets be sold? Cheers.

@Rauhbauty We might have met! I was on the Saxon left!

The plantagenets were all French, not English

When you have 3000+ people taking part, along with 100+ cavalry, every society has to hold back, and has to follow the script of the actual battle. None of us can lay in as hard as we would normally as discipline on both sides has to stay in place, for both acuracy and safety

yawn this is boring

I think the music is amazing.
What is the name of the song?

The song is called "Farewell." It's from a Celtic Folk Rock band The Secret Commonwealth based in Tennessee though the singer is Swedish. The song is on their second CD. check out their myspace link in the sidebar.

Hello! Battle of Hastings is studied in Poland too. Yeap we are learning of many great battles of all of the history. Cool video. Is this only one time reenactment or annual? We have something like this - Battle of Grunwald- evry 15th of July.

It's once a year around mid-October. Every year though its only a few hundred re-enactors. The big one such as the above involving close to 3000 all told is done every 5 years. The event is held at the actual site of the battle in the village of Battle at Battle Abbey.
