Your either tail the fish or put your hand in the gills, it doesn't hert them ..
and the smaller fish like large mouth bass, jumbo perch ect ect you can hold them by the lip so they 'freeze" and don't flop around ..

You know what? this is an Internet site and it's easy to forget there are actual people with feelings behind these posts. You're right I should have been more tactful with my comment so for that I do apologize. But having said that, fish have very sensitive gill fibers and one should never put his fingers inside the plates. You are releasing fish and I commend you for that but there are a lot of studies that show serious harm can occur to fish handled this way. Take it for what it is.

well it certainly couldn't hurt to keep the fingers out of such a sensitive place. You'd have to agree with that !? You don't need a study or facts really--do you?; you need to use some common sense. I know pics are important, and a great part of trip memories.....but your better off with a boga grip adn horizontal holding; (dont hang em with the boga; thats trouble too.)

Nice fish but if you are going to release them you should probably QUIT STICKING YOUR FINGERS IN THEIR GILL PLATES!!!
