Quick calibration of signal generator timebase against 10 MHz WWV before performing a check on a UHF receiver (next video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKXwxjUditA)

Both signals (10 MHz from HP 8657A rear panel and 10 MHz WWV off-the-air signal from dipole antenna) are combined with a resistive combiner and fed into a shortwave receiver ... a switchable attenuator is in-line with the 10 MHz reference from the signal generator's rear panel to knock the 10 MHz from the timebase down to a level that is near that of the off-the-air WWV signal.

No use of a GPS-disciplined lab reference here, doing it strictly old-school ... this particular HP sig gen does not have a high-accuracy timebase or I might be inclined to use a more accurate technique to set the time base ...
