I'm from Decatur,IL and ADM trains do this ALL the damn time!! Illinois passes some of the most stupidest laws, why don't they try and make a Bill on this crap. I'm a former EMT-I and when someone STOPS breathing, you have 3 minutes to get O2 to the brain or else....
haha, i live a block from there, i snapped my arm about 3 feet from the crossing sign and when the ambulance came to pick me up, we got caught by a train, I know its not life threatening, but it proves the point. This is why they built the under pass at belmont.
I work as a train conductor in the state of Iowa. Our rule about a sitiuation like this is, if we will be stopping and our stopping will block the path of an emergency vehicle, we must stop with enough distance before the road to allow the emergency vehicle to cross. This railroad may not have that rule. I also think that it would be a fulish Idea for any emergency vehicle to run a crossing with lights on. I come across people all the time running lights when we are doing 50 mph, and slower.
@kjackolin That's crazy. Someone could be dying and you gotta wait for this slow ass train to drive by. I'd just say fuck it and blow through anyway as long as I knew I could make it. When I was a cop we werent supposed to go on the sidewalk to get through traffic but if it was code 3 we'd do it anyway. Waiting in traffic is a waste of valuable time.
@TheSuperBlackMan--For safety reasons, no.

Isn't it OK for the ambulance to go through if it's clear, even if the lights are flashing and the arm is coming down?
