Perth Zoo has had another breeding success with twin Pygmy Marmosets born on 19 January 2011.

  • @fastgurrrl In the wild, Pygmy Marmoset offspring can leave their family group from the age of two years onwards. The same happens here at Perth Zoo. Only offspring that have reached maturity (at least two years of age) are transferred to other zoos. This provides mature offspring with the opportunity to either breed, form their own family or join another group. [continued]

  • @fastgurrrl [continued from previous comment] In the wild, there is only one breeding pair in each Pygmy Marmoset troop and the breeding female usually gives birth to twins (sometimes triplets) twice a year. The same occurs at Perth Zoo. I hope this information helps.
