many of these cutblocks (the areas they log) are tens to hundreds of km's from the nearest road. they are also on very steep hillsides. it's often cheaper, easier, and less environmentally damaging to fly the logs out, rather than building roads everywhere.

All you tree huggers live in wood framed homes. I have gone from logging to building houses and you can't hide. KISS OUR LOGGER ASSES!

@seatmech2000 I don't think tree huggers are against logging, just old growth rape.

it is hard to believe that the value of the timber can justify the operational costs of the chopper ...cool vid...

@gandb21 Thats why they use Helicopters to log all over BC, oh right, they don't. Helicopters are far more expensive than building roads. They use them around the Islands because of the steep terrain and mainly because there is no access to roads, it is often the ONLY way to log there.

Love the video - thanks for sharing. Like others others I find it hard to believe heli logging is profitable however it must be otherwise planet raping corporations wouldn't do it. Don't trees take carbon dioxide from the air to produce oxygen? Wonder what we're going to breath when we finally get all the trees cut down?

Well until we stop the need to live in houses, or use furniture or wipe our asses with toilet paper, there will always be a high demand for wood and paper products.
You will be pleased to know that about half of the planets oxygen supply comes from Phytoplankton in the ocean and the other half from trees, shrubs, grass and other plants. Not just trees on vancouver island ;)
