Kody and I attempt Preliminary test #2 in August 2007. He had been warming up quite nicely but lost impulsion as soon as we entered the ring and never really got it back. I drastically need to improve my reinsmanship, especially through corners, and we both need to get more consistent but it really wasn't a bad test if you don't count the pooping and then rushing instead of lengthening! LOL

I feel our walk section requires some explanation for the specialists who are viewing this. Our transition to walk at C was slightly late but not as tardy as it looked from that angle. As I came off the rail at M I found that in the smaller 20x40 arena (we've been using 30x60 all season) E was much further right than I was used to and I had to keep turning instead of creating a smooth departure. We did break to trot during the lengthened walk- I pushed him too hard because I know what he's capable of and felt he wasn't really pushing from his hindquarters as I know he can. I should have let it be of course, but I hate to allow him to get away with stuff in the ring. Like the fun new not-halts at X, once he figures out he can do something he'll try it over and over until stopped! You can't hear it through the music but I really got after him verbally for all that backing and wiggling and we went back and schooled in the arena for a long time when the tests were over. Anyway, once we returned to the rail I would normally have transitioned up to working trot about half-way between E and K but mishandled my reins at that point, causing a counterbend which I chose to fix before transitioning. That's why it was a little late.

I realize this sounds like a laundry list of excuses and I suppose it is, but I wanted to critique the test for the education of the new drivers I know who asked me to post an example dressage test.

This is my first attempt at editing a video completely with music and subtitles. How'd I do?

Thanks for watching!

  • cute horse alert!

  • cute

  • Appreciate the titles, makes it much more interesting to watch for dressage newbie like myself. Very nice.

  • What a lovely partnership, can't help but smiling while watching you two.

  • wow, great job on this! (mean show and video edit job) :) You and darling mini look fantastic! I ride myself but have enormous curiousity to have a few driving lessons. (thinking next week!)

  • Let me know your area and I will see what is happening for you. We are members of some driving organisations and compete ourselves

  • i do the eventing at lincoln creek!

  • How does one find shows like this? I've been wanting to compete in driven dressage with my mini gelding but I can't find any driven dressage competitions in my area. I'm new at driving but not dressage so any help would be greatly appreciated. Yes, my mini gelding is a seasoned driving horse and I believe he will be a great teacher.

  • Well, I happen to think you did a very nice job of editing the video, nice music too! I just started riding classical dressage about a year ago but I have a miniature horse that I would love to eventually try soem driven dressage with. He is not even 2 yet so we have a while!! :P

I have a spark of inspiration!
