My friend had the R1 2008 (the old version with 180hp stock) The speedometer from the R1 stops to raise at 299 km/h, but the rpm keeps goin up. So the top speed is around 305-310 km/h. But then he decides to upgrade his "scooter" K&N - Air Filter +4-8hp Akrapovic - Fiber carbon exaust pipe +10hp -8kg ECU - Power commander +8hp 203 hp on dyno Top speed: 321 km/h
Just crashed it at 80km/h... *LOL* Now he´s going to buy the new Ninja ZX-6R. He don´t wanna brake the 260km/h barrier anymore... =P
FFS, forget about what speeds you did on a 11 year old bike, it'll be way slower than what the current 2009 Jap sports bikes will do speed wise.
The main problem is that on specs for these bikes is , the Japs don't put the real top speeds on them they drop them back, and now Honda havn't released any top speeds for the fireblade since last year.
Anyway, I know people with 2008 R1 etc and they say they can do around 330kph while riding with them.

F1 certainly does have traction control or the cars would spin out all the time.
they have removed a lot of the extra stuff by the ECU so the F1 racing is closer other wise it'd be only 2-3 teams winning probably only Williams
and yes again MOTOGP have it!
read something about on internet pls.

Jap manufacturers voluntarily agreed to restrict bikes sold in the EU to 300kph after 2000.
I'd personally class jap limiters as a complete myth, they say Jap cars can only do 200kph your saying jap bikes only do 300kph.
Yet go and take them to the top speed and they'll go faster than your limited speeds.
Here in Europe Jap bikes are electronically limited to 186mph (300kph) - this has been the case since 2000.
I had a 1999 (unlimited) Hayabusa and whilst a very good one would go over 190mph no stock one could break 200mph in a two way run.
Jap speedos (and often their rev counters) are notoriously optimistic giving the impression of greater speed.
The extra horsepower needed to increase a bike's top speed from 180mph (300kph) to 200 mph is (very roughly) around 90bhp extra.
