Conductor's view from early rehearsal of Kurt Weill's The Threepenny Opera (college production). It had a weird setting with the orchestra on stage so singers had very limited sight of the conductor, if any, which made things a bit complicated. This is also my very first opportunity to conduct a full show. To have such an opportunity is a pretty good deal for a first year conducting student I believe. Pieces performed in this video are "First Threepenny Finale" and "Instead Of Song." Not necessarily the best ones but the ones that didn't have the obstruction of camera view. I will upload another piece ("Second Threepenny Finale") as well. This is one of the very first rehearsals with the orchestra so it gets a bit bumpy but the final product (which I do not have the video) was very good and I was proud of everyone involved.

  • thats good, so much better than your previous posts. you're obviously improving rapidly!

Just one thing, if you centre your 3rd ictus point slightly (have it just to the right of 1) then you'll find that you can continue it around far more efficiently. makes pauses so much easier.

    Still good though.

  • Thanks for the words of encouragement and advise. This kind of message makes posting videos here worthwhile. Did you post a comment on the Brahms 1st movement before?? There was a harsh one but I did take some of his/her advise.

  • Thanks for upload

  • not bad at all :) If I may make suggestions as well, here they are:

    1. try to find a gravity center while conducting. You are swiveling around a bit while conducting, switching weight between your left and right feet, to and fro. 2. Also, you bring up your left hand at the start of almost every measure.

Leave your left hand out of the equation completely. Once your hands are able to conduct independently, you can start condition your left hand to be more expressive.

  • No, I havnt, but i can if you would like.A good piece for developing basic technique is Tchaikowsky Symphony no. 5. Its got everything you need in there! Also the 1st/4th movements of Beet. 1 has just about everything you need to know as a conductor.

  • congratulations !!
