Travis Orbin - Of Legends Session - "Off Guard"

Third in the Of Legends drum session series -- and third on the album track list as well -- is "Off Guard," a searing little tune. There's an abundance of tempo changes, with the first landing immediately on the downbeat of the big fill-in around 0:15 (very difficult to nail). Luis actually programmed said fill-in and I kept it very similar, adjusting the orchestration for my setup.

The final two bars (starting around 1:36) features every cymbal on the album. Starting from the left and making its way to the right (player's perspective), I smash the ride, then low-pitched crash, low-pitched hats, stack cymbal, high-pitched hats, high-pitched crash, and ending on the chinese. I began utilizing this concept in Periphery. A powerful crescendo ends the tune; the last strike on the floor tom dented the batter head, heh - whoops!
